Systems Analyst

Leidos heritage companies pioneered the development of modern air traffic control systems in the United States more than 50 years ago. Today our systems handle 75 per cent of the air traffic in the U.S. and approximately 60 per cent of the world’s air traffic. When it comes to air traffic safety and efficiency, Leidos’s proven track record and industry-leading innovations make it the world’s most trusted air traffic control partner. In the U.K., Leidos has supported NATS since the early 1990s, starting with the development of the current en-route air traffic system, migration and ongoing development and support.

Leidos will deliver a significant refresh to the NATS technology and services that manage UK flights once they leave the lower airspace surrounding airports and before they transition to European or Oceanic air traffic control. The Leidos team provides the underlying infrastructure (network, compute, etc.) and integration services for the entire system.

We are in search of a Systems Analyst to join Leidos UK within the Civil Team, based in Whiteley.

In response to the success of the growing business, Leidos requires a Systems Analyst with experience of defining large scale Systems, Services and applications within a Mission Critical Systems\Services Integration environment.

The Role You Will Play:


The successful candidate will be able to work under general direction as part of a team and be able to independently determine and develop approaches to solutions.  Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

The successful candidate will plan, implement, test, document, and maintain customer wide solutions for either total system or subsystems, whilst providing technical support to a wide range of complex issues, providing solutions which are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives.  These will be provided by an understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts along with a general knowledge of other related disciplines.

The Systems Analyst will be required to communicate verbally, through E-mail and provide presentations to the team and management. The candidate will be expected provide ongoing service to all users and report status to their team lead / management regularly.

The candidate will be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and show a degree of flexibility in working hours when required to meet project milestones.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Provide first-line support in carrying out all routine technical tasks, including system set-up, equipment upgrades, system backups, asset management and installations in support of projects
  • Provide technical support to all Lab users including fault finding and rectification
  • Support opportunities which increase the teams scope of work with the customer
  • Provide backup support to members of the ILE Team
  • Provide client sight service, repair and/or installation support of existing hardware, software, network configurations and new system initiatives for all sites within area of responsibility.
  • Provide roaming site support services as well as assisting in the development and ensuring adherence to area-wide procedural/policy changes. 
  • Carry out specialist technical and/or engineering activities in a professional manner in support of project and company objectives
  • Carry out complex network engineering assignments requiring familiarity and expertise with a broad field of engineering and technical knowledge
  • Work closely with a team of professional engineers in achieving assigned project objectives and be responsible for technical, cost and schedule performance
  • Create, participate in and may take responsibility for project planning and estimating, status monitoring and reporting
  • Conducts testing of network design. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways

Required Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Problem determination & resolution
  • Strong analytical and technical ability
  • Good timekeeping skills
  • Good IT skills in a range of SW packages would be an advantage
  • Customer focused with a degree of flexibility to support other LM project work as required

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience in hardware / software application installation / maintenance in a Lab environment.
  • Experience in hardware/software application installation/maintenance in a Lab environment is essential
  • Experience of AIX version 5.2 upwards and Linux Redhat
  • Experience of Windows Server O/S System Admin / Backup
  • Any Networking experience (Working with Cisco, HP Kit)
  • Previous working knowledge of networking/data communications, including TCP-IP and DNS

Specific duties may include:

  • Ensure a wide understanding of Air Traffic Control Systems and their key components.
