3rd Line Engineer
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated third line Engineer, specialising in Windows (AD/Exchange), Physical Server support and virtualisation to support our 3rd Line team of IT experts in delivering high quality IT services to our government and commercial customers. We love to work with people who have a passion for infrastructure, ideally from an operational support services background. You will be self-motivated and be able to support the 3rd line Engineering Lead to achieve day to day objectives with significant results on project or operational deliverables, whilst also owning a variety of activities ensuring compliance with customer KPI’s and SLA’s. You must be an effective communicator, comfortable directly engaging with customers and colleagues. You must also demonstrate an analytical and systematic approach to technical challenges.

You will be providing infrastructure, application and network support, owning and leading on major resolution tasks while also supporting Second Line engineers with the resolution of complex incidents and problems, with support from fourth line experts as required.
Your Role and Responsibilities
The preferred candidate will be an expert on Microsoft Windows Server (including services such as AD, DNS, DHCP) and virtualisation (Hyper-V), while also having an understanding and interest in Linux (Ubuntu / CentOS) and a desire to learn (if required) additional complementary technologies such as Microsoft Stack Technologies (Sharepoint, SQL Server, Skype for Business / Teams), networking technologies and storage.
The role also includes providing remote and on-site support. There is also a requirement to provide out of hours on call support from time to time. You will be expected to contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of technical documentation and, while primarily supporting the operational service, also be able to provide material to support change projects if required.
Work as a team and support the 3rd Line Engineering Lead.
Have excellent knowledge of Virtualized Environments such as VMware and Hyper-V;
Have excellent knowledge of Windows Server Environments, from Server 2003 – 2019, including OS build, AD, DNS, DHCP and GPO from design to implementation and support;
Have a working knowledge of Linux system administration skills (Ubuntu / CentOS);
Have good general knowledge of TCP/IP and networking technologies including load balancing and firewalls;
Have good general knowledge of Microsoft stack technologies such as SharePoint, Skype for Business / Teams, MS SQL, MS System Centre, Office365, MS Exchange & CLI tooling such as PowerShell;
Have good general knowledge of SAN storage technologies;
Have excellent analysis and problem solving skills, taking ownership of complex incidents ensuring these are resolved to the satisfaction of the customer;
Favorable If You Have;
Possess excellent communication skills, ideally able to communicate technical issues to less technical staff and managers;
Have experience in providing support to others, including Service Desk Analysts and Second Line Engineers.
Have experience of producing and updating technical documentation to a high standard;
Occasional travel to other Leidos and customer sites may be required. Keeping an eye on the technology landscape is essential, too – identification of new and relevant technologies to solve problems and make improvements is part of the job.
