Production Quality Engineer/Inspector
Permanent, Based on site in Bedford

As a Production Quality Engineer here at Leidos, everyone takes some responsibility for quality, but we have a dedicated, independent quality team who carry out various functional and acceptance checks to ensure all products meet customers’ expectations before they are shipped.
You are a hands-on Quality Engineer who enjoys being in the thick of the action. You’ll carry out “in-line” inspection and test of our complex baggage handling systems, which incorporate many different modules and equipment such as conveyors, control systems, x-ray and detection systems. You will also conduct “Pre-ship” Quality checks and facilitate factory acceptance testing before releasing the product from the factory.
You’ll identify the root causes of any issues found with the process, build and design, taking corrective actions where necessary and recommending opportunities for improvement. You’ll also provide the relevant quality reports including 8D and complete all check sheets to sign things off.
Your quality testing feedback will be used by the Engineering, Product Development and Production teams to improve the products and services to increase customer satisfaction, product reliability and profitability.
You’re an experienced electrical / mechanical engineer, able to read/understand engineering drawings and able to follow a manufacturing process from start to finish. Ideally, you have some working knowledge of PLC Programming for carrying out in-line tests on the equipment.

About You
You are an inquisitive problem solver, questioning everything from a quality perspective. Willing to go the extra mile to make a difference and be the catalyst to implement change.
You’re ideally trained in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (HNC / ONC would be great) with some experience in a quality / manufacturing engineering role. It would be useful (but not essential) to have some knowledge of conveyor systems / automation.
You’re experienced with CAPA and 8D structured problem solving and reporting to address root cause of failures. Additionally, quality Reporting, NCMR, MRB and experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
You’re proficient in statistical analysis; with working knowledge of Quality Data and Quality Data systems.
Able to interpret both electrical and mechanical technical drawings and use general inspection tools including Micrometers, Vernier, Calipers and other measuring equipment.
Due to the nature of our business, you are expected to obtain and maintain BPSS security clearance.
