JOB SPECIFICATION:
As the IT Service Asset & Configuration Manager (SACM) you will support the IT Service Delivery Director to manage the lifecycle of IT assets and Configuration Items (CIs), as well as the processes that ensure the content and quality of data recorded in the Service Asset and Configuration Management Database (CMDB) meet the required standards.
You will be responsible for ensuring the organisation's asset and configuration processes are fit for purpose under the firm's engineering policies and drive continuous improvement activity to deliver increased value from the CMDB and total asset visibility across the firm's estate.
Working collaboratively with other IT Service Delivery leads, Finance, Procurement and Third Parties, you will also help to improve process performance and capability through provision of verified, current and auditable CIs received or imported from interfaces with other IT Service Management (ITSM) processes and functions.
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a crucial role within the firm's IT department as you will be responsible for ensuring that all other Service Delivery processes and technical functions have access to the right data at the right time.
You will need to focus on developing the CMDB using the corporate tooling platform and other supporting asset and configurations data repositories. The end goal being to have all supported assets and CIs contained in a single CMDB instance.
This role enables the IT department to manage and change the organisations’ systems, network, assets, and software based on sound, accurate configuration data; all of which contribute to reducing risk, manage cost and reduce impact to the business.
The IT Service Asset and Configuration Manager role will have the following responsibilities:
Planning
Responsible for ensuring that the SACM Plan, Policy & Process is created - This will include:
Definition of scope (e.g., whole company).
Definition of Configuration Items (CIs – service assets that need to be managed to deliver the service).
Creation of interfaces to other processes.
Planning related development tasks that will support the SACM process (e.g., requirements definition, integration with other tools, preparation for the implementation, workflows, setup of the tool, etc.).
Identification
Responsible for ensuring that all CIs are identified as documented in the plan
Ensuring every new CI follows the same identification Standard as defined in the SACM Plan.
Control the identification process in order to pass audits that will be performed ad-hoc to validate the data.
Control
Responsible for creating policies and detailed procedures to ensure that everyone knows what to do and what is authorised (i.e., no change, addition, or deletion of a CI is possible without approval).
Develop the CMDB to manage the CIs against the policy and procedure standards.
Status Accounting and Reporting
Responsible to ensure that the listed status of the CI is always its actual status. For example, “In test,” “Approved,” “Installed,” “Withdrawn,” “Under Maintenance” … etc.
Clearly define responsibilities among the people involved in the SACM process, as well as their relation to other processes, e.g., Release and Deployment Management.
Verification and Audit
Performing regular audits of the CMDB and verification that all CIs match the physical infrastructure.
If discrepancies are found investigate why and ensure prevention of such situations in the future.
Engineering Configuration Manager
Part of this role is also to undertake the Configuration Management duties supporting the Engineering Delivery team which provides and delivers the capabilities that are recorded within the CMDB and offered out by the IT Service Director’s team. You will be reporting to the Chief Engineer to ensure that all development and deliverable Configuration Items are under configuration control.
Responsible for the development and implementation of an Engineering Configuration Management Plan to define
Document Management and control of engineering development Configuration Items
Define reviewing processes and responsibilities following RACI principles such that all engineering developmental CIs are under control and have been through the appropriate review and release process
Agree engagement approach with the customer community such that the CMP is agreed, understood and approved.
Responsible for ensuring that all engineering CIs are under control as defined in the CMP
To define the file control structures such that all CIs are held within a program SharePoint system under correct governance policies.
To define the policies by which CIs at varying security classifications are controlled and visibility is maintained across several classifications of networks.
To work with the wider Leidos business functions to define and ensure best practise is adopted across the various programs and business domains.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
You will be joining a supportive and close-knit team; the role will be fast paced and may be challenging so an ability to multi-task and to work under pressure with tight deadlines is essential
You will be a team player and have an appetite for learning and development as external regulatory bodies and industry standards & technologies evolve.
You must be able to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the business and be able to influence outcomes while being pragmatic and open to looking at alternatives which support the business & IT strategy
You will need to understand how the CMDB platform underpins the Service Asset & Configuration Management process and how, in turn, this enables all other processes to operate effectively.
Demonstrable knowledge of the operation and management of a CMDB.
Demonstrable knowledge of SACM.
Deep understanding of IT Service Management processes (ITIL) and how Configuration Management underpins these.
Experience of working in a Configuration Management role.
ITIL Foundation IV Certificate.
Comfortable with reading, understanding & managing SLAs, Contractual agreements & monitoring their effectiveness.
