Project Manager

The Project Manager will be responsible for delivering contractual outputs to time, cost and quality constraints whilst working with the customer to define, bid and win the next phase of work on this major programme.

The Project Manager plays an integral part in the review and evaluation of technical solutions from our supplier community.  As the key point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders, the role leads the competitions team on a day-to-day basis in the running of competitions. This role will suit a project manager with Defence project and service delivery experience.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

Your primary responsibility will be to bid and deliver discrete work packages within a major defence programme. You’ll be running a team delivering competitions to select the best supplier for our requirements, as well as securing on-contract growth to ensure a consistent pipeline of work.

The Project Manager role is a critical part of the competitions team, making sure that we meet all our contractual requirements on time and within budget. Working alongside the Programme Manager, the Project Manager is responsible for delivering the strategic leadership of their projects, as well as implementing standard project controls and management tasks.

This role will be strongly customer facing and as the Project Manager, you will be expected to have excellent written and stakeholder management skills.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Management and control of small work packages; budget, procurement, and finances

  • Management of Risk, Assumptions and Dependencies

  • Stakeholder engagement for mission critical relationships throughout the customer organisation as well as industry partners and suppliers

  • Support to the Programme Manager in day-to-day resource management

  • Processing additional customer requests for support end-to-end through change management process

  • Internal and External Reporting on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis

  • Attending weekly and monthly customer briefings as a Leidos Representative

  • Managing project scope creep, requirements, and acceptance criteria

  • Support to the Programme Manager as required, and working collaboratively with other Project Managers, the Commercial Manager, and the Service Delivery Manager.

Skills Required:

  • Proven track record in successfully delivering projects or task work packages, ideally within the defence environment.

  • Good demonstrable Project Management experience (minimum 5 years). Strong interpersonal skills and judgement for dealing with both internal and external stakeholders to develop strong working relations to support achieving objectives.

  • Ability to engage and work within a multi-functional programme team comprising both customer, partners, suppliers, and internal staff.

  • Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of business, finance and personnel management techniques and the commercial aspects of projects.

  • The ability to communicate, negotiate and influence effectively, experience of facilitation and/or mediation an advantage.

  • Enthusiastic self-starter with good verbal communication.

  • Excellent written communication through the use of e-mail, presentations and reports.
