Assistant Buyer

Leidos is a global technology business, from our site in Wickford we supply tooling used in automotive production. As an Assistant Buyer, you will play a pivotal role in purchasing parts and materials used in our production.

Responsibility of the Assistant Buyer

  • To carry out the effective procurement of materials and services in-line with the business needs
  • Ensure that all items for procurement are within the relevant budget and comply with all appropriate strategies, raising any anomalies with relevant colleagues
  • Negotiate with suppliers to reduce Project Spend
  • Monitor relevant Engineering releases, requisitions and follow up with manufacturing
  • Monitor and appropriately report cost and delivery performance against the relevant budgets and timing plans
  • Identify new resourcing opportunities through market research or by other means
  • Identify   expediting   needs, and investigate any invoice, cost or quality queries
  • Attend project reviews as required, equipped with all relevant delivery information
  • Monitor and managing supplier performance in accordance with agreed KPI’s

About You

Previous purchasing experience, ideally within the manufacturing sector.

Strong sense of urgency & attention to detail

Analytical skillset with a methodical approach to problem solving

Ability to communicate effectively at all levels

Good working knowledge of MRP systems & Excel
