2nd Line SQL Database Administrator
We are in search of a 2nd Line SQL Database Administrator to join Leidos UK within the Defence Team. As a junior DBA, you will work under the senior DBA to provide a high level of service for an ever-growing database estate.

Responsibilities
- The role is dependent on the successful candidate gaining and maintaining high level UK security clearance.
- Day-to-day running of an ever-growing Microsoft SQL Server estate and some open-source databases. This includes, monitoring, troubleshooting, backups, security, optimization, automation.
- Working with the senior DBA to plan upgrades, migrations and carry out installations.
- Carry out daily checks, complete service requests and change requests within SLA.
The role will provide technical exposure variance across both outcomes-based project activities and operational (Business as Usual) support activities. The duties of the role will include on-site support and out of hours on call support.
You will be expected to contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of technical documentation and provide material to support the project work or the operational support service.
Technical Skills:
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft SQL 2012 through to 2022 Enterprise
• Ability to configure Always-On High Availability Group, database mirroring and shared-storage clusters
• Administration of Windows Server Failover Cluster
- Good working knowledge of Windows Server 2012R2 - 2022
• Good understanding of OLTP and OLAP databases and the ACID properties of transactional processes
• High level security and auditing best practice knowledge
Advantageous:
• T-SQL scripting
• PowerBI reporting
• Utilising the Sysinternals suite
• MariaDB Enterprise
• Linux Experience (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)
• Working knowledge of System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)
• Working knowledge of System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
Ideally, you will have:
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team
