Description

CNC Process Engineer

Wickford

Permanent

Leidos are currently seeking an experienced CNC Process Engineer to join our team in Wickford, where we design and manufacture jigs and fixtures used in car manufacturing.

You are, or have been, a CNC Machinist, ideally with some experience in machining jigs, fixtures and tooling, looking to change direction into a more process driven role where you use your experience as our machining expert – where you’ll play an integral part in optimising our design for manufacture, machines and machining processes, materials and quality.

You’ll act as the link between design and manufacturing, reading drawings they produce and advising on potential tweaks which may see the jig/fixture/tool be easier, quicker or cheaper to manufacture, advise on materials which could optimise performance, review machining techniques and processes and cycle counts to identify areas to improve quality, costs and efficiency.

Why should you join our Production Team?

We are problem solvers – we often have to think on our feet to solve engineering problems, improve efficiency, performance and profitability.

Fast Paced Industry – technology is evolving, our customers are evolving. We have to be adaptable in our approach, finding new ways to constantly evolve our processes and products.

Reward – we offer a competitive package with great benefits from a pension scheme (contribution matched up to 8%), private medical insurance and life assurance with loads of flexible benefits including dental insurance, gym flex and shopping discounts.

About the role;

  • Ensure products adhere to Quality Management standards (ISO9001, ISO14001 and Q1)
  • Improve efficiency of CNC machines
  • Reading, interpreting, and working to drawings supplied
  • Look at ways to improve methods and tooling
  • Decrease cycle times
  • Ensure correct processes are in place for manufacture.
  • Highlight all constraints/issues that may impact delivery of deadlines
  • Continually build relationships with internal stakeholders to achieve the successful completion of projects

About You

You are ideally apprentice trained (or qualified through experience) and have significant hands on experience in CNC machining

Strong knowledge of up-to-date manufacturing techniques.

Confident communicator – with both internal teams, customers and suppliers

Able to read engineering drawings, some experience in using CAD would be beneficial but not essential

Take a proactive approach in performance improvement and organisational change. Able to constructively challenge proposed operational and workplace needs to ensure efficient and effective use of resources

Proven experience of successfully improving production.

Previous experience in a CNC machining environment, ideally machining jigs/fixtures/tooling for the automotive, aerospace or automation industries.

This role would suit someone currently working in a CNC Process / Manufacturing Engineer role. It would also suit a CNC machinist looking to change roles into a more process driven role rather than on the machines.

Due to the nature of our business, you must be able to obtain and maintain BPSS clearance.

Original Posting Date:

2025-01-10

While subject to change based on business needs, Leidos reasonably anticipates that this job requisition will remain open for at least 3 days with an anticipated close date of no earlier than 3 days after the original posting date as listed above.
