Senior Grid Lead – Energy & Infrastructure Consulting (UK Based)

Are you a commercially driven Senior Grid expert with a strong background in technical due diligence within the energy sector? Do you excel at leading grid interconnection risk assessments and mentoring teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment? If so, join our expanding UK operations base as a Senior Grid Lead within our US-based Energy & Infrastructure Consulting (EIC) Division!

In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in establishing our UK presence, providing expert analysis on grid interconnection and availability for diverse energy infrastructure projects. You will lead the review process, mentor colleagues, and manage critical technical documentation for project transactions. Expect significant involvement in both project delivery and bid pursuits, with exciting opportunities to represent Leidos at national and international conferences.

Location: Ideally located near Glasgow, Edinburgh, or London, with consideration for strong remote candidates based within the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver independent technical and commercial analyses, providing actionable recommendations to developers, investors, and lenders.
  • Represent Leidos as a subject matter expert on grid interconnection and availability for renewable energy and large infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct thorough research on grid availability and effectively liaise with electrical grid operators.
  • Provide insightful commentary and analysis on the UK transmission grid network, including detailed reviews of grid supply points and project interconnections.
  • Balance intricate technical details with overarching commercial priorities to produce well-documented and robust recommendations.
  • Demonstrate excellence in report writing, delivering impactful presentations, and consistently meeting deadlines under pressure.
  • Provide direct leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Contribute to the development of compelling responses to requests for proposals.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Adhere to and champion company policies and procedures related to health, safety, and equality.

Requirements:

  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Comprehensive knowledge of local and national transmission and distribution systems in the UK, with preference for experience including Ireland and relevant regions of mainland Europe.
    • Proven experience as a senior team member within renewable energy projects.
    • Strong analytical and entrepreneurial mindset coupled with exceptional leadership and strategic thinking capabilities.
    • Willingness to travel throughout the UK and occasionally internationally.
  • Experience:
    • Demonstrable track record of delivering high-quality consulting services for utility-scale solar PV, onshore wind, offshore wind, BESS, green hydrogen, and/or advanced fuels/gasification projects.
    • Significant experience with the interconnection processes and requirements for utility-scale renewable energy projects in the UK.
    • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet challenging deadlines.
    • Excellent communication, leadership, and team-working skills.
    • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
    • Recognized industry expert in local and national grid planning processes, with the ability to contribute meaningfully at an industry level.
    • Familiarity with grid and interconnection regimes in other European nations is a plus.
    • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a high level of emotional intelligence and adeptness in navigating complex organizational landscapes.
    • Prior experience as a technical consultant within the renewable energy sector is a significant advantage.
    • Broad and versatile technical background.
    • Previous experience in renewable energy project grid connection processes is beneficial.
