What you’ll be doing:

Reporting directly to the Virtual Commissioning, Robotics, Vision & AI Systems Manager, the primary responsibility of this position is to support Leidos Automation, building our capability and competence through the deployment of best practices and accelerate our ability to take full advantage of machine vision technologies.

This will involve being responsible for technical support and development for all customer incidents, problems, requests for service and change, relating to machine vision applications and engineering solutions within the Robotics and Vision & AI systems department. Supporting the manager with the day-to-day management of their functional areas, overseeing group members and ensuring efficient operation to achieve business objectives. Providing leadership and be a technical point of contact to the team, work with the manger to coordinating workloads, support and mentor junior team members. Monitoring any issues, ensuring production targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), safety requirements and quality standards are to meet the customers’ requirements.

Drive the transition to digital ways of working within the department in-order to improve processes, drive quality up and to increase insight.

Key responsibilities will also include:

  • Leading creative thinking, generating and developing concepts that provide an original, appropriate and effective solution to the creative brief.

  • Planning, organising and scoping projects of all sizes, delegating effectively to deliver on time and on budget.

  • Providing technical leadership and implementation guidance.

  • Development of best practices and training materials on the usage and authoring of work instructions within the team.

  • Work to ensure people and resources are applied in an efficient and effective manner to meet delivery requirements while achieving quality and safety standards.

  • Ensure that team members follow defined standard procedures and comply with quality requirements.

  • Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including engagement of external resources as required.

  • Undertake continuous improvement and training.

  • Ensure the team know the Day-to-day tasks and Targets.

  • Feedback to the Senior Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimise results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements and delivery in line with Company and Customer requirement.

About you:

You will have a record of accomplishment as a Vision Systems Engineer, together with proven experience of successfully developing and building capability and best practices in machine vision technologies, coupled with:

  • BSc or equivalent in a technical discipline or Business Administration with proven experience in vision system technologies. 

  • Exceptional programming skills and grasp of software engineering principles with 5 or more years programming in at least one industry-standard language (C++, C#, C, Payton Java)

  • Advanced experience Programming in VBA & VB.NET.

  • Advanced Programming experience in MATLAB and Simulink

  • Industrial experience of developing and installing machine vision systems. (Halcon/MIL/OpenCV/Sherlock - advantageous).

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrate project management and/or maintenance, experience.

  • Strong computer skills required. Experience with MS Office and Project.

  • Understanding of robotic & PLC applications an advantageous.

  • Ability to read electrical drawings advantageous.

  • Ability to configure and diagnose computer IT networks.
