A Systems Engineering Manager is required to develop and maintain a high performing team of Systems Engineers to support Leidos UK’s current programmes and growth opportunities. This first line management role provides the opportunity to manage staff within the Systems Engineering capability of Leidos UK Engineering and Technology. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would continue in their current programme role and take on the additional responsibilities stated herein.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate successful team leadership in the Systems Engineering domain. The position will require understanding of systems engineering standards, principles and best practices. However, the successful candidate may have come from a different engineering background.
Typical Duties:
Develop and maintain talent management plans for all direct reports (e.g. succession, training and development planning)
Support staff development through the use of Performance and Career Development processes
Support the recruitment and selection of new staff to meet business needs
Support resourcing and work force planning processes to ensure bids and programmes are properly resourced
Promote company values and support direct reports to put them into action
Represent direct reports by ensuring their feedback, views and interests are filtered to the right forums
Keep direct reports informed of company, division, sector and team activities
Coach, mentor and / or performance manage as and when required
Manage compliance to processes and other corporate obligations (e.g. timesheets, compliance training)
Energise the team and maintain high morale in a high change and fast paced environment
Required Skills:
Demonstrated leadership experience in an engineering domain
Enthusiastic self-starter with good verbal communication
Excellent written communication through the use of e-mail, presentations and reports
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with direct reports and the wider management team.
Success with designing / delivering systems in a Virtualised Environment
Experience of working with Service Oriented Architecture
Demonstrable successes within the System Engineering or System Architecture environment
Demonstrable experience in requirements management, design documentation, compliance reports and engineering analysis
Desired Skills:
Previous line management experience is desired but not required
Understanding of the principles of systems engineering, and integration and test
Comprehensive understanding of various software development methodologies and practices (e.g. DevOps, Scrum)
Knowledge of systems / software design methodologies and tools (e.g. UML, MBSE, DOORS, CAMEO)
Experience of the complete system life cycle from problem definition through to deployment
Commitment to sharing ideas, technologies and best practices
Able to use understanding of customer needs and expectations to generate mutually beneficial solutions or alternatives
Willingness to offer fresh, innovative ideas and/or unconventional approaches
Make technological recommendations to accomplish objectives
