Senior Infrastructure Manager

We are in search of an experienced infrastructure manager to join our task force. You will predominantly be based from Home but will require ad hoc travel to client sites.

Engineering Managers (Infrastructure & Cloud) are critical to the growth of the UK organisation.  Accountable to the Head of infrastructure and Cloud, they provide oversight, co-ordination, and guidance to a defined set of teams within the Infrastructure and Cloud capability in line with the overall UK Engineering strategy. 

He/she is the lead, responsible for the organisation, development, training and performance management of engineers and architects delivering managed services and projects as required in line with divisional and programme requirements and strategy.

Role Description:

The Senior Engineering Manager’s responsibilities include:

•             Line management of Infrastructure and Cloud teams in the UK;

•             Resourcing (assignment) and recruitment (market analysis, interview and selection) and management of Infrastructure and Cloud staff in partnership with the Head of Infrastructure and Cloud to develop and maintain a high performing team to meet sector and programme objectives;

•             Maintain long term capability and resource plans (and associated development and training plans) for Infrastructure and Cloud teams through management of goals and IDPs to provide clear development paths and goals for all staff reporting to them;

•             Assess staff members skill and capacity requirements in partnership other senior team members and in line with strategy and pipeline to manage the recruitment process;

•             Working with the Head of Infrastructure and Cloud, develop strategy and grow capability and competency for the infrastructure function;

•             In collaboration with managers and the Head of Infrastructure and Cloud, build business cases for retention of staff;

•             Ensuring the staff utilisation is at the defined targets;

•             Supporting business development activities such as contributing to bids, supplier engagements, and industry events;

•             Governance – assisting in defining and implementing processes & standards and ensuring staff adhere to them;

•             Point of escalation - ensuring escalated issues from customers and colleagues are resolved effectively and in a timely manner;

•             Coach and mentor less experienced infrastructure staff as required;

•             Foster a spirit of teamwork inclusion and unity amongst the teams;

•             Keep managers and staff informed of company, division, department, and team’s activities;

•             Empower staff and managers to take responsibility for their jobs and commitments;

•             Innovate and encourage innovation within managers and team members;

•             Manage compliance to processes and other corporate obligations e.g. timesheets, training.

Required experience and competencies:

•             Strong resource management experience, including actively engaging with business leaders, driving the elicitation of needs, developing resourcing plans and supporting the business as needs evolve;

•             People leadership experience in a technical business, able to speak credibly to highly technical individuals and work with them to elicit challenges and find routes to success;

•             Strong people skills, able to motive, influence and drive individuals both inside and outside of their direct management, including mentoring, coaching and performance management;

•             Good stakeholder management skills and organisational acumen, able to influence stakeholders across the business at all levels to bring momentum behind resource improvement and change activities;

•             Understanding of key business activities, such as business development, capture & programme management and finance, ensuring they are actively engaging the right technical resources in the activities to financial targets and quality levels;

•             Provide up to date and accurate reporting to Head of Infrastructure and Cloud relating to capability, competency, training plans, successions, retention and resourcing;

•             Demonstrable ability to adapt to new technologies, skillsets and to learn quickly.

Typical Minimum Education & Experience:

Ideally require Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, but this is not essential.  We will also consider individuals with equivalent experience. 

Salary Range

  • £52,000 - £67,000 with potential to increase for truly exceptional performance at assessment
