Leidos currently have a vacancy on the Metropolitan Police Services Command & Control (C&C) Programme for a Principal Engineer.
This programme sees Leidos deploying an entirely new C&C capability into the operational centres of the UK’s largest police force and given the critical nature of the service, the transition of this solution must be done with care to ensure minimal impact to the service that the MPS provides to the general public.
The candidate is required to be a self-starter able to identify and implement necessary tasks within his area of responsibility and the flexibility necessary to work within a dynamic Programme. Responsibilities will include working with other Leidos staff (engineering and programme management), and regularly with potential partners, subcontractors and internal product development teams to assess candidate system solutions or products, conduct should-cost assessments, resolve technical issues, optimise development processes and provide recommended solutions to problems that are likely to have significant programme or technical implications.
Duties will include but not limited to:
- Production of High Level and Detailed technical design (HLD, LLD) of a complex solution encompassing multiple technologies and areas of expertise;
- Lead on the response to customer requests for change (RFC), developing new elements of the solution, assessing impact to existing system and service, generating estimates and bills of materials
- Undertaking implementation of project elements, leading a team of engineers and SMEs
- Support to Chief Engineer in defining and delivering a solution that meets the user need within the bounds of requirements whilst acknowledging the schedule and cost constraints
Required Skills:
Able to execute and perform without assistance, and possessing significant practical experience and applied knowledge across the following areas:
- Complex systems integration projects, involving IT systems;
- Technical Management of subcontractors
- Systems Engineering and understanding of the principles behind each of the main processes
- Technical Team Management including the planning of work packages, allocation to team members and reporting
- Technical Team Leadership including providing technical direction to team members
In addition to the areas above, the candidate is required to have:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and work well in a team environment;
- Ability to lead on systems engineering tasks – requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, systems integration and testing and trade studies is expected;
- Intellectual calibre and confidence to conduct complex discussions with civilian and service customers and suppliers;
- Ability to clearly articulate and communicate design and technical concepts in written and verbal forms;
- Capability to develop and communicate a vision for assigned elements of the System;
- Prior experience creating designs or implementing several of the following technologies:
- Azure native services
- Active Directory and Azure AD
- Network Switches (Layer 2 and 3)
- VPN, Load Balancers
- Web Application Firewall (WAF) and secure gateways
- Logging and Monitoring tools
- High availability networks
- Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS)
- Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
- Single sign on
- Web services
