Senior Test Manager

Level T5

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Test Manager to join our team and help drive the delivery of the next evolution of the Metropolitan Police Services Command & Control (C&C) capability. This programme sees Leidos deploying an entirely new C&C capability into the operational centres of the UK’s largest police force and given the critical nature of the service, the transition of this solution must be done with care to ensure minimal impact to the service that the MPS provides to the general public

As part of the programme leadership team, the role will be a mix of remote working, on-site working from our Farnborough office (UK) & occasional travel to a Customer site in South West London. This position is a full time, permanent role, and applicants must have (or be able to acquire) a security clearance to SC level along with NPPV clearance. Applicants must be UK Nationals, resident in the UK for the last 5 years.

The Role

This role will oversee all quality assurance activities and act as Test Authority for the delivery programme The successful candidate will have a broad set of experience including a good understanding of various test methodologies and approaches, from Waterfall to Agile, including significant experience standing up & executing test automation campaigns. Using their experience in Test Architecture and Test Programme Management to deliver successful projects and programmes, the successful candidate will create innovative, agile, efficient and effective approaches to testing and assurance.

This will require the co-ordination & integration of a large of delivery systems, services & applications and the subsequent verification & validation at the systems of systems layer including full service testing in an operational environment. This will also require testing within a Cloud based environment, so testing with Cloud & Virtualised technologies is a must. The successful candidate should have not only excellent leadership skills, but also be comfortable at communicating at presenting to audiences from test managers up to executive level sponsors.

Specific duties include:

  • Strategic and technical leadership and direction to support the delivery of effective testing, developing an upfront test automation strategy and leading the development & maintenance of test automation frameworks

  • Providing exceptional guidance and support in defining test strategy, process techniques, levels, organisation, tools/frameworks/technologies, infrastructure, environments and data across a variety of delivery and technology landscapes and methodologies, balancing a delivery and commercial focus for Leidos activities, Customer activities & supplier activities

  • Developing and maintaining specific Test Strategies for Unit tests, Integration tests and UAT.

  • Development, promotion and communication of a clear vision and strategy for the integration and test team

  • Providing goals and objectives for the team in line with the Test Strategy

  • Leading and coaching a highly efficient integration and test team and grow its capability to achieve the best blend of automation and specialist skills

  • Co-ordinating test resources, planning utilisation and recruiting additional resources to fill shortages or skill gaps

  • Working with the wider Leidos test community to stay current with evolving Leidos processes, tools and methods

  • Analysis and definition of effective test strategy and approaches for a variety of delivery and technology landscapes, ensuring cost effective testing solutions balanced with business and technical risk and implementing continuous improvement & cost efficiencies

  • Test documentation creation (Test Plan, Test Closure Report, Test Packs with test scenarios) and presenting findings to Programme leadership and customer.

  • Managing test and live environments and co-ordinate testing activity.

  • Leading the development and evolution of test scrips

  • Tracking dependencies, scheduling endpoint testing and testing environments, and dealing with conflicts of interest between industry partners and customers.

  • Communicating test environment availability to project management and external data/service providers

  • Bug or Defect Lifecycle & triage processes – working with delivery teams to resolve issues.

Key Experience:

  • Technical skills in complex large scale data/regulatory programme, involving APIs, interfaces, messaging, Cloud platforms and hybrid hosted systems.

  • 12 years’ test planning, management & execution experience (or 10 years’ experience with ISTQB Foundation Certificate in software testing)

  • The ability to coordinate the efforts to configure environments and tracking the status of environment configuration activities.

  • A good understanding of On Prem, Cloud based hosting and Hybrid environments, inc APIs, authentication and routing mechanisms.

  • Understanding and appreciation of risk and security issues of large-scale public facing services managing sensitive personal data.

  • Experience of developing and running automated test solutions in complex systems usning tool like Selenium, Loadrunner, Robot etc.

  • Strong experience of managing third party suppliers including how to streamline their test campaigns

  • Ability to collaborate and influence across both technical and non-technical stakeholders, resources and teams

  • Experience of service testing, system testing, operational testing, functional & non-functional testing

  • Exceptional understanding of technology and testing, including common solutions and architectures, test automation, emerging technology and testing trends, and test techniques/technologies/tooling.

  • Able to use understanding of customer needs and expectations to generate mutually beneficial solutions or alternatives

  • Significant experience across a number of broad technology disciplines, including domains such as digital transformation, mission critical, application consolidation, infrastructure design & migration (including Cloud & Data Centre), software development, service integration, and data analytics

  • Working with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally, excellent communication skills and stakeholder management is key. You must have experience in managing complex 3rd party relationships.

  • Previous experience of test management and line management to enable to you support a number of Test Managers across multiple workstreams

  • Good practical understanding of technology development governance principles

  • Good Team player with Strong interpersonal skills

  • Data integration, data aggregation and data quality experience

Desirable Experience:

  • SECDEVOPS/DEVSECOPS working experience

  • Automation of UX testing experience

  • Telco Testing Experience

  • Delivering test programmes within SAFe delivery methodologies

  • Strong problem-solving with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced and rapidly changing work environment

  • Strategic thinker, coupled with an output focused approach to getting the job done
